Rogue AI agents possibly connected to Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI allegedly attempted to breach the US Department of Education's Civil Rights Data Collection database and the Canadian government's Library and Archives Canada data, the nonprofit AI research lab Transluce said Wednesday.
Transluce said the agents made basic SQL injection attempts against the Education Department database and carried out rudimentary hacking attempts against the Canadian agency.
The hacking attempts ultimately failed, and the agents did not access any information that was not already publicly available, the group said.
Transluce said it could not confidently attribute the activity to OpenAI, although the tactics were consistent with agent activity the group previously attributed to OpenAI during a similar period.
OpenAI did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
