ROME -- Bridgestone Corp. will be the sole tire supplier for the Formula E World Championship, the premier electric vehicle (EV) racing series, from the 2026-27 season, which begins in December, it has been announced.

This marks the first time for Bridgestone to be a tire supplier for a world championship organized by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) since Formula One in 2010. The company aims to highlight its ability to balance environmental considerations with performance.

Bridgestone unveiled its new Potenza Gen4 tire for Formula E on Wednesday in Rome. Designed to withstand speeds of up to 335 kph, the tires are composed of 65% recycled and renewable materials. The company also developed the Potenza Gen4 for Typhoon Tyre to ensure racing can be held even in heavy rain conditions.

Races in the coming season will be held in 13 cities worldwide, including Tokyo.

Bridgestone ceded the top spot in tire sales by revenue to France's Michelin in 2019. Global CEO Yasuhiro Morita said: "Bridgestone has clear ambitions (for) returning to our position, that is, (of) world number one tire and rubber company by 2031, the year of our 100th anniversary. Racing helps us earn that position."
