Barclays (BCS) is expanding its artificial intelligence partnership with Amazon-backed Anthropic to integrate secure AI systems in its global operations, the company said Thursday.

The bank expects Claude Code adoption to reach 50% of its software developers by the end of the year and the vast majority of developers in 2027, the company said.

More than 16,000 Barclays employees currently use a Claude-powered assistant to answer customer questions and serve the bank's more than 20 million UK retail customers, Anthropic said.

The assistant has handled more than 1 million searches since launching in 2025, it added.

Barclays also uses Claude to sort and route roughly 120,000 daily emails in its Global Markets unit, the company said.
