Compass' (COMP) demand to the California Regional Multiple Listing Service to stop enforcing rules governing when marketed listings must be submitted to the CRMLS for cooperation was rejected, the organization said in a Wednesday statement.
CRMLS alleged that Compass seeks to control access to its listing information on a pay-to-play model, which could undermine the competitive market.
CRMLS said it is now preparing for potential litigation and organizing an MLS Cooperation Legal Defense Fund focused on consumer transparency, equal listing access, and open competition.
Compass did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
