U.S. government natural-gas data being published Thursday are expected to show an injection in natural gas inventories.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is expected to report that gas-storage levels rose by 64 billion cubic feet during the week ended Sept. 25, according to the average forecast of eight analysts, brokers and traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal.

The EIA is scheduled to release its natural-gas storage data for the week at 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

Estimates range from increases of 50 bcf to 79 bcf. The average forecast compares with a 80-bcf increase in storage in the same week last year and a five-year average rise of 68-bcf for that week.

Front-month Natural Gas futures rose 0.5% Wednesday, climbing to $3.026 per million British thermal units. Natural gas slid in the third quarter of 2026, falling 7.6%. It makes it the fourth quarter out of the past six that natural gas prices have had a negative quarter.
