Securitize, a publicly-traded tokenization firm, said today that it's rolling out tokenized stock trading for U.S. investors.
Eligible investors in the U.S., European Union and other jurisdictions will now be able to trade 12 stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Tesla, Meta and Amazon, through Securitize's regulated broker-dealer platform on the Solana blockchain.
Securitize will convert shares of these companies into digital tokens, which are also expected to trade on the 24/7 tokenized securities trading platform being developed by the New York Stock Exchange and the recently unveiled tokenized securities venue from OKXICE, a joint venture between NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange and crypto exchange OKX.
Securitize said its tokenized stocks represent direct ownership of underlying shares and are structured to preserve investor rights and economic benefits.
Investors can buy these tokenized stocks by connecting their digital wallets to the Securitize platform and start trading after passing know-your-customer requirements. They will need Solana tokens to pay for transaction fees and the stablecoin USDC to trade.
Until recently, tokenized stocks have been a niche area mostly restricted to overseas investors. The Securities and Exchange Commission last month carved out a legal path for trading venues to offer tokenized stock trading in the U.S. via a pair of temporary five-year innovation exemptions, prompting companies to fast-track their plans.
