Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google has been ordered to suspend development of two data centers in Finland until environmental impact assessments for the projects are completed, according to a Google translation of Finland's licensing body's statement Tuesday.
The Finnish Licensing and Supervision Agency, or LVV, issued a notice to Google's unit Tuike Finland Oy to halt preparatory measures that will substantially change the environment at the data center project planned for Muhos and Kajaani.
The suspension applies to the removal of trees and topsoil, excavation, quarrying, crushing, transfer of soil masses, ditching and the construction of construction roads and storage areas by the company, LVV said.
Completion of the environmental impact assessment reports for the projects is expected in 2026, it added.
Google did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
