European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts fell late Wednesday morning with the S&P Europe Select ADR Index declining 1.2% to 1,875.05.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by medical device maker EDAP TMS (FOCL) and pharmaceutical company Sanofi (SNY), which increased 3% and 0.8%, respectively. They were followed by pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk (NVO) and biopharmaceutical company argenx (ARGX), which were up 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by lender Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and biopharmaceutical company Cellectis (CLLS), which decreased 3.9% and 3.6%, respectively. They were followed by lenders Banco Santander (SAN) and ING (ING), which dropped 3.3% and 3.2%, respectively.
The gainers from the UK were led by biopharmaceutical companies NuCana (NCNA) and Mereo BioPharma Group (MREO), which advanced 3.8% and 3.3%, respectively. They were followed by telecommunications operator Vodafone Group (VOD) and tobacco company British American Tobacco (BTI), which rose 1.8% and 1%, respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical company Biodexa Pharmaceuticals (BDRX) and biotech firm Trinity Biotech (TRIB), which were down 5% and 4.9%, respectively. They were followed by insurance company Prudential (PUK) and lender HSBC (HSBC), which lost 4.4% and 4%, respectively.
