US equity indexes rose as big-tech names helped the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite hit fresh all-time highs intraday amid declining government bond yields and crude oil.
The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.8% to 27,699.1, the S&P 500 climbed 0.9% to 7,839.7, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7% to 51,637.8 after midday Tuesday.
Among stocks with market capitalization exceeding $200 billion, nine out of the top 10 were technology names, according to data compiled by Finviz. Marvell Technology (MRVL), GE Vernova (GEV), and Dell Technologies (DELL) led the gainers in this mega-cap category, up by at least 4.5% each.
US Treasury yields fell across the curve. The 30-year rate declined 3.1 basis points to 5.64%. The 10-year yield slumped 5.1 basis points to 5.26%. The 2-year yield slid 5.2 basis points to 4.78%.
President Donald Trump late Monday signed an executive order aimed at lowering near-record diesel prices by temporarily allowing tax-exempt red-dyed diesel to be used on highways.
The front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract dropped 1.9% to $87.77 per barrel, and the global benchmark North Sea Brent futures declined 2% to $98.19 per barrel.
