Renewable diesel plants used a record amount of soybean oil as well in July at 871 million pounds, up by 13.8% from 766 million pounds during the previous month. Renewable diesel accounted for approximately 80% of the monthly increase in soybean oil consumption. Its July consumption exceeded biodiesel’s by 55 million pounds, reversing June’s relationship.\nTotal domestic vegetable oil consumption reached approximately 2.571 billion pounds, up by 10% from June and by 51% from July 2025. The sum of publicly disclosed feedstock consumption, excluding both corn and sorghum, increased by 4.7% to a record of 4.186 billion pounds.\nFor the first time in three months, domestic biofuel producers used more distiller’s corn oil (DCO) in July, consuming 453 million pounds, up by 24% from 365 million pounds in June. This figure was still below the record high of 477 million pounds consumed in April. DCO accounted for almost 11% of all feedstocks used in July, up from 9.7% in June.\nEIA data also showed the domestic biofuel sector consumed 330 million pounds of canola oil in July, up by 3% from 320 million pounds in June. However, canola oil’s market share of the total US feedstock mix moved down to 8% in July, from 8.5% in June.\nUS producers used less used cooking oil in July, at 610 million pounds, down by 11.5% from 689 million pounds in June – the highest monthly level since August 2024. This July figure represented 14.6% of the total pool of feedstocks used over the month.\nAs for tallow, US biofuel producers used 771 million pounds in July, up by 2.2% from 754 million pounds in June. This represented 18% of the total US feedstock pool, down from 20% in June.\nSince the start of 2026, US biofuel producers have increased their use of soybean oil following the finalization of US biofuel blending mandates for 2026-2027 and updates to the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit (CFPC) earlier this year. In July, soybean oil accounted for more than 40.3% of the total US low-carbon-intensity (CI) feedstock pool, down slightly from 41% in June but up from 39% in May and from 36% in April.\nIn 2020-2022, soybean oil’s share of the US feedstock market reached record highs at 50-60% before dropping to 30-35% in 2024-2025 due to several factors, including softer US demand and cheaper imports of low-CI feedstocks.\nSeparate figures released by USDA on October 1 showed that implied US demand for soybean oil continued to move higher in August, as stockpiles fell to 1.70 billion pounds, down by 13% from 1.96 billion pounds in July.\nStill, September figures should show that soybean oil demand from the US biofuel sector eased, with several fuel production plants reportedly offline for planned and unplanned maintenance around the US.","kind":"highlight","is_publish_news":true,"is_publish_highlight":false,"is_publish_live":false,"is_publish_wemedia":false,"editions":null,"column":"","sentiment":"0","news_tag":"","news_rank":0,"isVideo":false,"video":null,"symbols":[],"gpt_button":0,"need_auth":false,"need_login_tip":false,"code":"91000000","status":"200"},"commentList":[],"isCommentEnd":true,"newsSizeData":{"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"favoriteSize":0,"likeStatus":false,"favoriteStatus":false},"APP":{"userAgent":"Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; +claudebot@anthropic.com)","isDev":false,"isTTM":true,"isLaohu8Offline":false,"tenantId":"TBGLOBAL","deviceId":"web-server-community-laohu8-v3","version":"4.50.1","shortVersion":"4.50.1","platform":"web","vendor":"web","appName":"ttm","isIOS":false,"isAndroid":false,"isTiger":false,"isTHS":false,"isWeiXin":false,"isWeiXinMini":false,"isWeiBo":false,"isQQ":false,"isBaiduSwan":false,"isBaiduBox":false,"isDingTalk":false,"isToutiao":false,"isOnePlus":false,"isHuaWei":false,"isXiaomi":false,"isXiaomiWebView":false,"isOppo":false,"isVivo":false,"isSamsung":false,"isMobile":false},"href":"/m/news/2673701702","isCrawlerRequest":true}
