BYD (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) plans to sell its Racco electric minicar outside Japan, initially targeting Sri Lanka and Macao, Nikkei Asia reported Monday, citing the Chinese automaker.
The company is accepting Racco reservations in Macao and plans to launch sales in Sri Lanka on Friday, the report said. The model was developed specifically for Japan and complies with the country's kei minicar standards.
The automaker plans to expand the Racco to other markets, focusing initially on right-hand-drive countries and regions similar to Japan, Nikkei noted. BYD entered Japan's passenger-car market in January 2023 and has delivered 10,000 vehicles there, the report said, BYD's Vice President Liu Xueliang.
