Panasonic (TYO:6752) plans to build humanoid robots, aiming to start production by 2029, Nikkei Asia reported on Tuesday, citing chief AI officer Akira Sakakibara in a recent interview.
The company initially intends to market the machines for factory production lines and warehouses, the news agency said.
A newly created AI and robotics R&D division will lead the effort, with research already underway on AI models and related technologies, the publication said.
Though rivals in China and elsewhere are ahead, Sakakibara is confident Panasonic can produce safer humanoids, citing the fire-free battery record of subsidiary Panasonic Energy, the report said.
