Market Chatter: South Korea May Restrict Unlicensed Banks From International Bond Deals

MT Newswires Live12:19

South Korea is assessing restrictions on investment banks without local securities licenses from assisting domestic issuers' bond deals abroad, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy requested industry feedback from the Korea Financial Investment Association on the prospective rules, with a survey done last week, the news outlet cited a document as saying.

The finance body told the publication that they are seeking to align with global standards by looking into regulatory lapses within unlicensed investment banks.

The finance ministry did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
