Toyota Motor (TYO:7203) launched a residual-value auto financing scheme in Thailand to counter cheaper Chinese EVs in the country, Nikkei Asia reported Monday.
The program, known as zanier, was launched in August across almost all dealerships in the country, with buyers paying given affordable financing rates based on a vehicle's estimated value at the end of a three-year to a five-year contract, the report said.
Buyers can return the vehicle at the end of the contract, trade it in or buy it at the residual value, the report added.
Similar products have been offered in the Singapore and Malaysian markets on a limited basis, with Thailand hosting the first large-scale rollout, the report noted.
