Market Chatter: Taiwan to Criminalize Unauthorized AI Server and Advanced Chip Exports to China

MT Newswires Live10-16

Taiwan plans to add AI servers and advanced semiconductors to its list of controlled export items, making unauthorized shipments of restricted AI hardware to China a criminal offense, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing Economic Affairs Minister Kung Ming-hsin.

Minister Kung stated that the measures are designed to align with US export controls under the US-Taiwan Agreement on Reciprocal Trade signed this year, though an exact effective date has not yet been finalized.

Currently, Taiwan does not classify unauthorized AI chip shipments to China as a specific statutory crime, with law enforcement relying on broader domestic regulations to prosecute suspected illegal transfers, Bloomberg reported.
