Euro at Risk of Renewed Falls on French Debt Concerns, U.S. Rate-Rise Prospects

Dow Jones10-15 17:07

0907 GMT - The euro remains at risk of falling against the dollar due to French debt concerns and expectations for further interest-rate rises by the Federal Reserve, Commerzbank's Antje Praefcke says in a note. Socialists are already trying to block the budget after the French National Assembly began its debate on proposals earlier this week. "The negative newsflow from France is therefore unlikely to subside anytime soon and should remain a lingering headwind for the euro." At the same time, Wednesday's higher-than-expected U.S. inflation data should reinforce the market's perception that the Fed will remain restrictive, she says. The euro rises 0.6% to $1.1217 after reaching a 17-month low of $1.1112 Wednesday, LSEG data show.
