Skydance (SKYD)-owned CNN, Versant Media's MS NOW and Politico secured a court order blocking President Donald Trump's attempt to ban their journalists from the White House, with a federal judge ruling that the restrictions likely violated their First and Fifth Amendment rights.
US District Judge Timothy Kelly granted a preliminary injunction restoring the outlets' access while their lawsuit proceeds. Kelly said the administration failed to provide evidence that the ban was initially based on national security concerns, noting that Trump's comments suggested the move was intended to punish unfavorable reporting.
Kelly found that the journalists were likely to succeed on claims that the administration retaliated against their reporting and discriminated against their viewpoints, according to the ruling.
CNN, MS NOW, Politico and The White House did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
