Captrust Recruits $3 Billion Financial Advisor Team from Truist

Dow Jones10-15

Captrust, a large Raleigh, N.C.-based registered investment advisor firm, has recruited another large wealth management team. The firm on Wednesday announced that the Hoge-Barrett Group, a 13-person practice that managed $3 billion in client assets with Truist, has joined Captrust.

Hoge-Barrett, based in Winston-Salem, N.C., joined Captrust on Friday. The move establishes Captrust's seventh office in its home state. Hoge-Barrett has six advisors and seven support staffers.

Truist declined to comment on the departure.

Hoge-Barrett is led by advisor Brett Hoge and serves affluent individuals and families, including some in the ultrahigh-net-worth space with "significant and multigenerational wealth," a Captrust spokeswoman says.

"Our clients' needs have evolved significantly over the years, and we wanted to make sure our team was evolving with them," Hoge says, noting that Captrust will offer his advisor team better technology, planning capabilities, and investment research. "That allows our team to remain focused on the families we know so well while giving us more tools to address the complexity that comes with significant and multigenerational wealth."

Captrust is one of the largest RIAs in the country, ranking No. 9 on Barron's 2026 list of mega firms. It has a large institutional business as well as about $96 billion in retail assets under management, according to its more recent Form ADV regulatory filing, which showed more than $1.2 trillion in total assets.

Hoge-Barrett is the eighth addition Captrust has made this year. It is the second-largest team the firm has brought on in 2026. "The pipeline remains strong," the spokeswoman says.

Scott Matheson, managing director and head of client solutions at Captrust, says that top advisor teams such as Hoge-Barrett are leaving institutional environments in favor of independence as they seek to tailor their service models to clients with complex needs.

"Teams like Hoge-Barrett don't want to sacrifice scale or resources to gain independence," he says. "They want both, and Captrust is uniquely positioned to deliver."
