MT Newswires Live10-13

Matson (MATX) said Monday that it and Hanwha Philly Shipyard christened Makua, the first of three new Aloha Class containerships being built as part of an about $1 billion fleet investment.

The vessel is scheduled to enter service in Q1 2027 and will serve Matson's China-Long Beach Express and Hawaii routes. The three ships will replace existing vessels and are expected to improve operating efficiency and reliability while increasing capacity.

The new containerships will feature dual-fuel engines designed to operate on conventional marine fuels or liquefied natural gas.

The second ship is scheduled for delivery in Q3 2027, while the third is expected in Q2 2028.
