Hitachi Ltd. and major Japanese industrial robot manufacturer Fanuc Corp. have launched a partnership in the field of physical AI, the companies have announced.

The companies will combine AI semiconductors developed by Hitachi with Fanuc's robotics technologies to create AI robots capable of autonomously adapting to changes in complex tasks, and aim to commercialize these robots in fiscal 2027.

Physical AI involves using artificial intelligence to control robots. The companies will verify whether the AI can recognize changes in conditions and make setting adjustments on its own in place of human operators at Hitachi's factories to ensure the robots operate smoothly, while making necessary improvements.

Hitachi and Fanuc plan to deploy the developed robots in factories across a wide range of industries such as automotive, pharmaceuticals and food.
