Delta Electronics (TPE:2308) Chair Cheng Ping warned that power infrastructure is failing to keep pace with AI data center expansion, Taiwan News reported Wednesday.

The executive noted that capital expenditure by four major US cloud providers is projected to surge to 4.7 times 2022 levels this year, while power investments have risen 1.8-fold, according to the report.

US data centers are projected to add 44 gigawatts of electricity demand by 2028, against 25 GW in additional grid capacity, leaving a 19 GW shortfall.

Cheng highlighted energy efficiency, fuel cells and solid-state transformers as potential solutions.
