Royal Philips (PHG) said Thursday that the EXIT-CVD research consortium has launched a five-year, 27.6 million-euro ($30.9 million) research project to study cardiovascular disease detection, monitoring and treatment across Europe.

The project will be led by University Medical Center Groningen and Royal Philips, with co-funded from the European Union's Innovative Health Initiative and industry partners.

It will bring together 42 public and private partners across 17 countries to conduct 22 clinical studies with more than 14,000 patients enrolled.

Patient enrollment for the first clinical study will begin this month, it added.
