Verizon Communications, Ericsson Complete First Outdoor Pre-Standard 6G Field Call

Verizon Communications (VZ) and Ericsson (ERIC) said Thursday they completed the first outdoor pre-standard 6G field call using the 7 GHz band at a Verizon commercial network site in Concord, California.

The companies said they installed Ericsson's 6G proof-of-concept equipment at the site to assess network performance, including coverage, throughput, latency, and signal stability in outdoor conditions and as signals pass through building materials.

The test used a 400 MHz carrier and examined signal performance across different environments, including areas with obstacles and varying window and wall materials, the companies said.

Verizon and Ericsson said the results will help guide further 6G research and network planning.

The demonstration is an early-stage test, not a commercial 6G launch, the companies said, adding they will continue testing as the technology develops ahead of formal 6G standards.
