Fed Expected to Pause in October, Hike in December

Dow Jones10-14

0510 GMT - The Federal Reserve will likely skip an interest-rate hike in October but raise interest rates in December, says Russell Investments' BeiChen Lin in a note. "But if there's an upside surprise to inflation amid a backdrop of a market already anxious about price pressures, that could cause the market to revisit the October probabilities, as well as reassess the terminal rate," the senior investment strategist says. An important point Russell Investments thinks is worth echoing is that this is not 2022, as many of the inflation drivers present then are no longer around today. "This should help keep a lid on inflation, and a lid on how high the Federal Funds rate needs to go."
