SK Hynix (SKHY) is seeking approval from the US government to export US chipmaking equipment to China to increase production there, as it prepares to build a factory in the US, Reuters reported Thursday, citing two unnamed people familiar with the matter.
Higher output in China would help the SK Hynix US unit Solidigm fund a NAND facility in the US and allow it to produce more domestically, while the unit is also weighing an initial public offering as early as next year to help finance the plant, the news outlet quoted the people as saying.
SK Hynix told MT Newswires it complies with the regulations of all jurisdictions and remains committed to stabilizing the global semiconductor supply chain, adding that no capacity expansion is being planned at the Dalian Mod B site and that equipment installation is being carried out in consultation with and under authorization from the US government.
