Signet Jewelers' (SIG) potential investment in De Beers appears aligned with its natural diamond strategy, though the near-term earnings impact is likely limited, UBS said in a note Thursday.
The analysts said the investment could support Signet's higher-priced diamond offerings and brands, such as Blue Nile. However, it remains unclear whether the deal will proceed or how much Signet would invest, they said.
"In our view, any benefit would depend on the scale of Signet's investment and whether its participation delivers meaningful commercial or supply chain advantages," the analysts added.
The analysts said a small stake would align with the Signet management's strategy of avoiding large-scale or transformational acquisitions. The company's recent takeover of The Clear Cut was relatively small, and the analysts expect Signet to continue prioritizing organic investments.
Against this backdrop, the analysts said they view a potential De Beers investment as a strategic move rather than a meaningful near-term earnings driver.
UBS has a buy rating and a $136 price target on Signet Jewelers.
