US equity market investors will focus on mega-cap earnings, crude oil prices, and macroeconomic data this week while watching out for any rebound in government bond yields.
* Quarterly results due include Meta Platforms (META), Tesla (TSLA), Lam Research (LRCX), Texas Instruments (TXN), IBM (IBM), Spotify (SPOT), Netflix (NFLX), and American Express (AXP).
* Investors will watch out for any AI jitters after a sharp sell-off last week in neo-cloud company CoreWeave (CRWV) as well as a debate over the acceleration in the 2026 revenue growth forecast for the Amazon.com (AMZN)-backed Anthropic ahead of its much-anticipated initial public offering.
* Last week, hot consumer and wholesale price inflation prints coupled with a slump in Treasury yields and a slump in the probability of the Federal Reserve lifting interest rates in October for a second month in a row shifted the spotlight away from earnings. Last week, the 10-year yield fell to below 5.10% from a high of about 5.35%.
* The market will likely use last week's economic data as "a platform from which to rebuild higher yields over the weeks ahead, and into the mid-terms; especially with neither side voicing an intention to take action on the fiscal deficit," according to a note from ING.
* Macroeconomic and Treasury data due this week include S&P Global purchasing managers' indexes, Michigan consumer confidence and inflation expectations, building and housing permits, ADP employment change, initial jobless claims, and the 20-year US government bond auction.
* Oil prices slipped early Monday after President Donald Trump waived sanctions and tariffs on Russia to boost supply, Reuters reported. Trump signed the executive order on Friday to effect the waivers under the law known as the Graham Act, which he signed last month to pressure Moscow over its war in Ukraine.
* Iran has issued public threats against Washington and its allies to deter Trump from launching fresh strikes, CNN reported.
