Indonesian Equity Market May Remain Volatile

Dow Jones10-19 17:41

0941 GMT - The Indonesian equity market may remain volatile, given uncertainty over index provider MSCI's potential reclassification of the country to standalone from emerging-market status, Eastspring Investments says in a report. "The move reflects growing concerns over the quality of domestic capital market governance, while adding to investor uncertainty amid still-fragile market conditions." The broader market could face a six- to nine-month overhang until MSCI's final decision by end-June 2027, Eastspring says. The benchmark Jakarta Composite Index slid 3.6% to 4996.61, its lowest closing level since 2020.
