Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT) faces new growth opportunity emerging from siRNA programs, with near-term investor focus to likely remain on the duchenne muscular dystrophy franchise, Wedbush said in a Friday note.
Wedbush further said that the company's preclinical data and partner Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals' (ARWR) initial phase 1 data provide encouraging evidence supporting potential of SPR-1003 in myotonic dystrophy type 1 and SRP-1005 in Huntington's disease.
Recent SPR-1003 preclinical data showed "robust" reduction of dystrophia myotonica protein kinase expression in not only cytoplasm but also in nucleus, the firm noted.
Additionally, SRP-1005 data showed that subcutaneously injected siRNA leads to higher target knockdown in two critical deep brain structures compared with intrathecal delivery, Wedbush further said.
Wedbush maintained its outperform rating on the stock with $35 per share price target.
