Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI's former engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan faces a Justice Department push to remain detained pending trial over allegations that he planted a concealed recording device in an executive conference room at the AI company, according to a court filing Sunday.
Prosecutors described Alfozan as "a Saudi national with considerable resources and ties to Saudi Arabia," citing his planned one-way trip to Riyadh on Oct. 12 and his wife and son's departure from the US for Doha, Qatar, on Oct. 10, as evidence of flight risk.
Alfozan was arrested Oct. 9. His lawyers have argued that the travel plans were made before his arrest and did not indicate an intention to flee, Bloomberg News reported Monday.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
