WHAT TO WATCH
-- In its first earnings report since its IPO, Elon Musk outlined ambitious targets for SpaceX in August, including launching data centers in space in 2027 and reaching $1 trillion in revenue by 2030. Investors will be eager to hear updates from Musk, who has a history of sharing ambitious targets for his companies.
-- SpaceX is expected to turn a profit in the latest quarter, even as the company spends billions of dollars on artificial intelligence and space exploration. The company laid out $18.4 billion in capital investments during the second quarter, the majority of which went to AI. SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen previously said the company expects its third- and fourth-quarter capex figures to be comparable to the second quarter, and investors will be looking to see if that is the case.
-- The third-quarter report is set to come a day after Musk said he would gift every child in America one SpaceX share, following pledges by rival Anthropic and other high-profile billionaires to give away some of the immense wealth accumulating during the artificial-intelligence boom. It wasn't immediately clear how the shares would be distributed, who would receive them and when it might start, and investors will be looking for additional information on the call.
