Gilead Sciences to Pay $45 Million in Texas Medicaid Settlement, Attorney General Paxton Says

MT Newswires Live10-23

Gilead Sciences (GILD) agreed to pay $45 million to settle claims by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that it engaged in an "illegal kickback scheme that improperly influenced prescriptions" covered by Texas Medicaid, the attorney general said Thursday.

The attorney general's office alleged that the company offered incentives to medical providers, including free nurses and reimbursement support services, to encourage prescriptions of its drugs

In many cases, Medicaid covered those prescriptions, resulting in millions of dollars in claims submitted to Texas Medicaid that were allegedly tainted by Gilead's "illegal inducements," the attorney general said in a statement.

Gilead did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
