These long dated leases lock in sizable future data center commitments, which could reshape Hut 8’s mix of recurring revenue and capital obligations for years. The focus now turns to how Hut 8’s investment narrative could shift as these long term data center leases reshape its cash flow profile. AdvertisementHut 8 Investment Narrative Recap To own Hut 8, you need to believe the long term contracted data center model can gradually matter more than Bitcoin mining volatility while still managing heavy project financing. The recent selloff, with the stock down sharply alongside other crypto plays, mainly highlights how tightly sentiment is still tied to Bitcoin and macro risk. The near term catalyst remains energizing campuses and onboarding contracted workloads. The biggest immediate risk is execution against large lease and debt commitments while the business remains loss making. The multi year Texas and Louisiana leases can support that core thesis by backing Hut 8’s shift toward recurring infrastructure revenue. The stock reaction around the US$9.8b Texas lease shows markets are watching how these contracts balance against a recent GAAP net loss of US$177.1m and roughly US$7.6b of total debt. If project ramps slip or regulatory processes slow again, those fixed obligations could matter more to the story than any single trading day move. The most relevant update here is the US$9.8b lease that fully commercializes Hut 8’s Texas campus, paired with the earlier US$7b, 15 year deal in Louisiana. Together, they tie directly into the key catalyst analysts focus on: turning a 949 MW contracted IT capacity pipeline and US$26.6b of base term contract value into live, paying workloads. For you, the question is less about headlines and more about practical delivery. Those contracts also concentrate risk. Hut 8 is still unprofitable, with a reported net loss of US$599.2m and high general and administrative costs, including sizeable non cash share based compensation. The Texas lease can help support future cash inflows once fully ramped, yet it also adds to long duration obligations on top of US$7.5b of project notes and an undrawn US$1.07b revolver. Execution on energization, community approvals, and cost control will likely do more to shape the catalyst path than short term moves in crypto linked valuations. What The Forecasts Assume For Hut 8 Hut 8’s current analyst playbook leans heavily on a step change in both revenue scale and profitability over the next few years, tied to those long duration data center leases. Consensus models point to revenue growth of 74.0% per year over the next 3 years as the contracted AI and data center pipeline is delivered, even though analysts do not expect Hut 8 to turn profitable in that same window. The base case then stretches out to 2029, where the scenario underpinning many targets assumes profit margins lift from a reported loss level of 188.5% to align with a 12.0% margin, roughly in line with the average US software peer set. Under that framework, earnings are projected to move from a loss of US$599.2m today to a profit of US$201.8m by 2029, with earnings per share modeled at US$1.34. That is a swing of about US$801m in aggregate net income, and there is a wide spread between the more optimistic forecast of US$597.5m of earnings and the most cautious view that still calls for a loss of US$717.2m. To reconcile those figures with current share prices, the analysis assumes Hut 8’s equity would eventually trade on a P/E of 210.3x those 2029 earnings, compared with a reported P/E of 15.4x today and an industry reference point of 30.7x for US software. Share count assumptions also matter in this story. Analysts are baking in 7.0% yearly growth in the number of shares outstanding over the next 3 years, which would spread any future earnings across a larger equity base. Discounting projected cash flows and terminal values back to today uses a cost of capital of roughly 10.6% to 10.57%, as per the Simply Wall St framework that sits behind these estimates. For anyone looking at Hut 8, the question becomes how comfortable you are with the mix of high growth revenue expectations, aggressive margin rebuilding, rich implied multiples, and ongoing equity dilution that underpins that valuation math. Hut 8's narrative projects US$1.7b revenue and US$201.8m earnings by 2029. This leans on 74.0% yearly revenue growth and an earnings swing of about US$801m from a loss of US$599.2m today. Uncover why Hut 8's fair value indicates a 152% potential upside to its current price, which could narrow quickly. NasdaqGS:HUT 1-Year Stock Price Chart Exploring Other Perspectives One alternate take on Hut 8 leans on a much more optimistic catalyst. Bullish analysts were already modeling about US$2.0b in 2029 revenue and US$596.9m in earnings before this lease news, far above consensus. You can treat that as a reminder that opinions vary widely and use it as a cue to explore multiple viewpoints that may shift as these contracts bed in.
