Trump Softens Rhetoric on Bombardier After Discovering $50M Investment in Kansas

Dow Jones02:36

1436 ET - Montreal-based business jet maker Bombardier might be out of President Trump's crosshairs after comments he made at a rally in Park City, Kansas, suggesting he may back off. In an apparent reference to the Canadian company, Trump said "I'm going to be helping a certain air company get themselves straightened away." The comments came days after Bombardier said it was investing about $50 million in Wichita to expand its manufacturing capacity there. "I always viewed them as a Canadian company," Trump said at the rally. "But now we find out they have a presence here and we're not hurting them if they're in Kansas." Bombardier already has a large footprint in the U.S., directly employing workers across more than 20 states, as well as indirectly though its extensive supply chain.
