Firefly Aerospace (FLY) has completed the preliminary design review for its Elytra spacecraft and will work towards the final critical design review prior to hardware production and assembly, the company said Wednesday.

The preliminary design review covered Elytra's structural, thermal, propulsion, avionics and control systems, among others, Firefly said.

The spacecraft is intended to deliver drones built by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration to the moon's south pole under the MoonFall mission, the company added.

MoonFall is targeted for launch by late 2028 as part of a long-term lunar exploration called Moon Base, Firefly said.
