Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) is exploring alternatives to rare-earth components used in factory equipment amid concerns over potential supply disruptions from China, Reuters reported Thursday, citing three people familiar with the matter.
The chipmaker has surveyed suppliers on the use of rare-earth-free motors in factory automation systems, though the effort remains preliminary and has not led to a wider rollout of the equipment, according to the report.
TSMC did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
