Amazon.com (AMZN) has obtained approval from the US Federal Communications Commission to acquire the authorizations of Globalstar (GSAT) as part of its acquisition of the satellite telecommunications company, the agency said Tuesday.

The approval includes Globalstar's space station licenses, earth station licenses, domestic and international section 214 authorizations, and an experimental license.

The agency said that the transaction is "likely to benefit the public by enhancing data coverage to areas that are currently unserved or underserved by telecommunications carriers" and that no harms to material public interest were likely.
