US equity indexes rose as big tech got a lift after Anthropic announced its initial public offering and crude oil prices fell.

The Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.2% to 26,275.3, the S&P 500 advanced 0.9% to 7,694.7, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.3% to 52,389.6 after midday Monday.

All but two sectors rose, led by technology, consumer discretionary and financials. Communication services and consumer staples declined.

Anthropic filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday for an initial public offering of Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol "ANT." Goldman Sachs (GS) and Morgan Stanley (MS) are the lead underwriters, according to the filing.

Sixteen of the 20 top-performing stocks in a category with a market capitalization exceeding $200 billion each were technology firms, according to Finviz-compiled data. The biggest gainer in this category was Tesla (TSLA), with shares surging 6.4% after the company said in a social media post on X that Latvia has authorized the electric vehicle manufacturer's full self-driving (supervised) system in the Eastern European nation. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley were among the outperformers in this peer group of mega-caps.

In energy market news, the front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract dropped 1.8% to $101.43 per barrel, and global benchmark Brent declined 1.2% to $115.52 per barrel.

Most US Treasury yields rose during midday trading. The two-year yield rose three basis points to 4.71%, and the 10-year rate was steady at 4.99%.

In company news, JetBlue Airways (JBLU) shares sank 14%, the lowest on record, amid growing scrutiny over how the US airline plans to shore up its finances, Bloomberg reported. If fuel prices remain high, JetBlue may need to shift from cash-burning to regularly generating cash, Bloomberg Intelligence Analyst George Ferguson was cited as saying.
