MT Newswires Live16:37

Japanese stocks gained on Tuesday as investors bet big on much-anticipated Anthropic's initial public offering in the US, renewing optimism in artificial intelligence investments ahead of the tech earnings.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed up 1,078.72 points, or 1.73%, at 63,268.37.

Oil prices edged higher even as diplomatic talks in Tehran raised hopes of de-escalation in the Middle East, while fresh attacks by Iran-backed Houthis highlighted persistent risks to energy supply.

On the corporate side, Shin-Etsu Chemical (TYO:4063) posted 286.9 billion yen in net income attributable to owners of the parent for the fiscal first half, compared with 257.8 billion yen a year ago.

Also, Obic (TYO:4684) posted 44.4 billion yen in profit attributable to owners of the parent for the six months ended September 30, compared with 37.30 billion yen a year ago.
