Hong Kong Stocks Open Higher as Investors Eye Earnings, Central Bank Decisions

MT Newswires Live09:41

Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Monday as investors assessed easing oil prices and looked ahead to a busy week of central bank meetings and corporate earnings, including results from major technology companies.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.3%, or 63.59 points, to open at 23,156.96, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.3%, or 21.43 points, to 7,777.68.

Investors are bracing for earnings from major technology companies, including Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon, for clues on whether heavy investment in artificial intelligence and data centers can sustain growth and justify elevated valuations.

Central bank decisions are another focus this week, with the U.S. Federal Reserve widely expected to hold interest rates steady.

However, persistent energy-driven inflation has strengthened expectations for further rate increases later this year.
