Brightstar Resources (ASX:BTR) has begun a 6,500-meter diamond drilling program at the Two Mile Hill-Shillington deposit within its 3.6 million-ounce Sandstone gold project in Western Australia, with a second rig expected to arrive in the coming days to support drilling activities, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The seven-hole drilling program is designed to extend the Shirvington Zone along strike and at depth, define the western boundary of the mineralized tonalite, and test for extensions below the existing 1.5 million-ounce mineral resource, per the filing.
Assay results from three previously drilled holes are expected in November and will feed into an updated mineral resource estimate due this quarter, alongside the project's pre-feasibility study, the filing added.
The company's shares rose 9% in recent Wednesday trade.
