(Updates to add Tokio Marine's response to MT Newswires' query)
Tokio Marine (TYO:8766) will start offering insurance for AI-driven robots from November, with the premium set to be 20% more costly than current robot insurance, Nikkei Asia reported on Sunday.
The technology, known as physical AI, enables machines to autonomously assess situations and act based on camera and sensor data, the news agency said.
The technology is expected to see widespread use in factories, nursing homes and retail stores, the report said.
Tokio Marine told MT Newswires that the company will begin offering "AI Robot Insurance" from November 2026, which will cover not only damage to the AI robot itself and liability for damages to third parties, but also personnel costs for replacement personnel during operational downtime and contributing to solving social issues, including labor shortages.
