Apollo Global Management (APO), Blackstone (BX) and TPG (TPG) held preliminary discussions with Universal Music Group about potentially taking the music company private, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The talks took place earlier this year but have not progressed, and no formal sale process has begun, according to the report.
The report added that any deal would require support from the Bollore family, which owns more than 30% of the company, and other major shareholders.
Tencent Holdings, which holds more than 11%, has also not indicated interest in selling its stake, Bloomberg reported.
Apollo Global, Blackstone TPG and Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
