MDA Space signed an agreement with Thales Alenia Space to supply digital antenna subsystems for the EU's planned sovereign satellite constellation.
Under the authorization to proceed agreement, valued at more than 100 million Canadian dollars ($71.5 million), the Canadian space-technology company will provide its proprietary MDA Aurora digital phased array antennas and controllers for 66 early-delivery, low-Earth-orbit satellites under the EU's IRIS program, the company said Friday.
The contract is with the joint venture between France's Thales Group and Italy's Leonardo, two European aerospace, defense and security groups.
The new hardware will be designed and built at MDA's facility in Montreal and will support the first layer of satellites set to begin launching in 2029.
MDA said that the new contract will be included in its backlog in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.
