Hyundai Motor Group will establish an AI data center in the Saemangeum AI valley project in North Jeolla, in which it will invest about 9 trillion won, according to a Friday statement.
The move came after a review with affiliates such as Hyundai Motor (KRX:005380), Kia (KRX:000270), Hyundai Mobis (KRX:012330), Hyundai Engineering & Construction (KRX:000720) and Hyundai Autoever (KRX:307950).
In addition, the group disclosed the creation of a 200MW solar power generation special purpose corporation (SPC) in September.
The group will then launch two SPCs in November to run the AI data center segment, with one designated as a data center SPC focused on data center construction and infrastructure.
The other is a GPU service SPC, which will secure high-performance GPUs.
Hyundai Autoever, the group's IT and software affiliate, will participate in the GPU service SPC.
The group will begin construction of the data center in March 2027 and launch official service in early 2030.
The data center should anchor the company in upgrading key technologies in autonomous driving, robots, manufacturing AI and physical AI.
Shares of the affiliate companies fell between 5% and 10% in recent trade.
