Equinor (EQNR) said Thursday that a new appraisal well in the Afrodite discovery near the Kvitebjorn field shows that its recoverable gas volumes may be more than twice as large as previously estimated.
The appraisal was conducted by the Deepsea Yantai, while Wellesley operates the well and Equinor operates the production licence, the company said.
Recoverable volumes of gas and condensate are now estimated at between 77 million and 180 million barrels of oil equivalent, Equinor said.
Total volumes in the reservoir are about three times as large as the recoverable amount, it said.
Equinor said it considers the discovery commercially viable and will continue assessing a potential subsea development connected to the Kvitebjorn platform.
