How Binance Ranks Among History's Biggest Crypto Hacks

Dow Jones10-31 00:30

The cyberthieves who raided Binance smashed the record for history's biggest crypto hack. With a reported loss of around $6.3 billion, the Binance heist is more than four times bigger than last year's $1.5 billion cyberattack on Bybit, another crypto exchange, which had been the previous record-holder.

Notably, blockchain researchers have attributed both the Binance and Bybit hacks to North Korean state-sponsored hackers. Researachers have also said Pyongyang was likely behind September's hack of crypto exchange Bitget and the 2022 attack on Ronin Network, the platform behind the once-popular online video game Axie Infinity.
