Google's 3Q Raises Search Monetization Questions

Dow Jones00:26

1226 ET - The deceleration in Google's 3Q search revenue raises questions about the company's monetization of AI Mode and AI Overview, UBS analysts write in a note, lowering their price target to $332 from $380. "Google struck what was a more measured/deliberate tone around monetization of incremental AI queries, which to us suggests a lower ad revenue growth trendline than we had anticipated," the analysts write, adding that the company took a "measured approach to monetization" even prior to AI. The third-quarter search showing compares unfavorably to Meta Platforms' revenue growth, the analysts add, noting that a Meta AI search product may be intensifying competition risk. Shares in Google parent Alphabet fall 12% to $282.76.
