Gilt Yields Fall After Fed Leaves Rates Unchanged

Dow Jones16:35

0835 GMT - Yields on U.K. government bonds, or gilts, decline along with their U.S. equivalents, after the U.S. Federal Reserve kept interest rates on hold at Wednesday's policy meeting. Investors await the European Central Bank rate decision due at 1315 GMT when rates are widely expected to remain unchanged. U.K. Treasury chief John Healey delivered a moderate budget on Wednesday, ensuring gilt markets remain calm for now. The Debt Management Office also announced reduced long-dated gilt sales, supporting the performance of long-dated bonds. Ten-year gilt yields fall 4 basis points to last trade at 5.307%, Tradeweb data show.
