Market Chatter: Chinese Firms Face Shortage of Nvidia AI Chips Despite 6 Million Orders

MT Newswires Live18:03

Alibaba (BABA), Tencent and ByteDance have ordered about 6 million Nvidia (NVDA) RTX Pro 5500 chips but expect to receive only about 1% of the total over the next four months, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The orders are valued at about $70 billion, with each chip priced at more than $11,000, the report said, adding that the first shipments of several thousand chips are expected by year-end, followed by tens of thousands more around February.

Chinese buyers estimate deliveries could reach about 700,000 units by the end of 2027, although final shipment volumes could change depending on Nvidia's production capacity, Bloomberg reported.

Nvidia told Bloomberg that supply will remain limited for the foreseeable future due to production constraints and scheduling conflicts.

Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and Nvidia did not respond to MTNewswires' requests for comment.
